TRIBUTE TO SISTER MARY CHARLESITA (aka MYRA R. STRATTON)
1924-2014
1964-'65, Dubuque, Iowa
In early 2010, I had the privilege of becoming acquainted with Myra R. Stratton (formerly Sister Mary Charlesita), a warm, sweet, beautiful, and quite brilliant woman who, it turns out, had influenced scores of young students back when she taught English after the Second World War and had gone on to serve as a regional director for the U.S. Department of Labor to assist women in entering the workforce before the ability of women to forge careers was commonplace.
Myra passed away peacefully on May 28, 2014 - just two days shy of her 90th birthday. I put together this website simply because I don't want her to be forgotten; because she deserves recognition for her accomplishments; and because I want anyone still looking for her to know that she continued to bless others with her presence throughout her life, even as her memory began to fail.
For a full accounting of how I met Myra and painstakingly discovered who she really was, see my post "Finding Myra" on my blog Monday Morning Rail: https://mondaymorningrail.com/2016/10/02/finding-myra/
As I collect more information about her life history and more photos, I will add to this site. If you knew Sister Charlesita (or Myra, before and after her service as a nun) , please feel free to add your own comments and observations or to contact me directly.
